A Bold Leap into the Future of Energy Data
Norwegian energy intelligence powerhouse TGS has just landed a groundbreaking 4D streamer acquisition contract in the Barents Sea, targeting the Goliat field, operated by Vår Energi. This isn’t just another seismic survey—it’s a high-tech mission to unlock the secrets of the Arctic seabed. Armed with their state-of-the-art Ramform Hyperion vessel, TGS is set to redefine how we explore and understand offshore energy reserves.
The project, kicking off in July, will run for approximately 20 days, marking another milestone in TGS’s ambitious 2025 summer campaign. But this is just the beginning. With a series of back-to-back contracts already secured, TGS is positioning itself as the undisputed leader in 4D seismic technology.
Building a Legacy in the Barents Sea
“We’re thrilled to expand our 4D footprint on the Norwegian continental shelf,” said Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS. “This latest contract, combined with our existing projects, solidifies our presence in the Barents Sea. It’s a testament to our expertise and the trust our partners place in us.”
Earlier this year, TGS secured two additional 4D streamer contracts offshore Norway—one in the North Sea and another in the Norwegian Sea. These surveys, set to begin in June, will span a combined 80 days, further cementing TGS’s dominance in the region.
But the company isn’t stopping there. TGS recently launched a multi-client 3D seismic acquisition and processing project in the Goliat area, adding another layer of innovation to their portfolio. This dual approach—combining 4D and 3D technologies—ensures that TGS remains at the forefront of seismic exploration.
Why 4D Seismic is a Game-Changer
4D seismic technology isn’t just about capturing data—it’s about capturing change. By monitoring how reservoirs evolve over time, energy companies can optimize production, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact. For TGS, this contract is more than a business win; it’s a step toward a smarter, more sustainable energy future.
With four 4D streamer contracts already under its belt—three in the North Sea and one in the Barents Sea—TGS is proving that innovation and ambition go hand in hand. As the Arctic becomes an increasingly vital frontier for energy exploration, TGS is leading the charge with cutting-edge technology and unparalleled expertise.
