Revolutionizing the Seas: DSIC Launches Wah Kwong’s Next-Gen LNG Vessel

In a bold move toward a greener maritime future, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC), a powerhouse under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has officially begun construction on Wah Kwong’s cutting-edge 175,000 cubic meter LNG vessel, the G175K-13. This milestone marks a significant leap in the global push for sustainable shipping solutions.

A New Era of Maritime Innovation

On March 6, 2025, DSIC’s shipyard hosted a steel-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the birth of Wah Kwong’s second LNG vessel. The event, shared on social media, was hailed as a “pivotal moment in our journey toward energy transition, alongside our trusted partners.” This vessel is part of a four-ship series, each boasting a massive 175,000 cbm capacity, developed through a collaborative effort between China Gas, Wah Kwong, and CSSC.

Engineering Excellence Meets Sustainability

The G175K-13 isn’t just another ship—it’s a marvel of modern engineering. Equipped with the advanced Mark III Flex cargo containment system by GTT, the vessel features four cargo tanks and is powered by two WinGD LNG dual-fuel low-speed main engines. These engines are integrated with the innovative iCER system, ensuring optimal fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. But that’s not all. The vessel’s design includes an optimized twin-stern line, high-efficiency propellers, and rudders with a bulbous bow, all working in harmony to enhance performance across diverse operational scenarios.

Powering the Future of Shipping

Adding to its impressive specs, the G175K-13 comes with four dual-fuel generators, designed to meet power load demands in various conditions. This vessel is set to operate under a 20-year charter with China Gas, further solidifying Wah Kwong’s commitment to expanding its dual-fuel fleet. With these advancements, the maritime industry is one step closer to achieving its sustainability goals.
