Stolt-Nielsen Takes the Helm: The Full Acquisition of Avenir LNG
From Majority to Full Ownership
In a bold move that solidifies its dominance in the LNG and BioLNG sector, Norwegian powerhouse Stolt-Nielsen has announced its plan to acquire the remaining shares of Avenir LNG. This comes hot on the heels of the company securing a whopping 95% stake in the UK-based midstream LNG & BioLNG firm. The acquisition, executed through its subsidiary Stolt-Nielsen Gas, saw shares previously held by Golar LNG and Aequitas change hands, marking a significant shift in the industry landscape.
The Compulsory Acquisition Play
With the majority stake firmly in its grasp, Stolt-Nielsen is now leveraging applicable legislation to compel the acquisition of the remaining shares. The board of directors has greenlit this move, setting the purchase price at $1 per Avenir LNG share. The finalization of this compulsory acquisition and the settlement of the purchase price are slated for around April 16, 2025, contingent on meeting certain conditions. Post-acquisition, Stolt-Nielsen plans to delist Avenir LNG’s shares from Euronext N-OTC, further consolidating its control.
Avenir LNG’s Fleet and Future
Avenir LNG isn’t just a name; it’s a fleet. The company currently operates five LNG bunker and supply vessels, with two more in the pipeline. These newbuilds are expected to hit the waters in Q4 2026 and Q1 2027, respectively. This expansion not only underscores Avenir LNG’s growth trajectory but also aligns with Stolt-Nielsen’s strategic vision for the future of LNG transportation and storage.
