On February 19, 2025, CPN made waves by supplying 5,500 metric tons of B24 low sulfur fuel oil (LSFO) to the XIN Los Angeles, a containership operated by COSCO Shipping. This wasn’t just another routine delivery—it was a groundbreaking moment, cementing Hong Kong’s position as a leader in sustainable marine fuel innovation.
The operation wasn’t just a local win; it also set a new benchmark for biofuel deliveries across all Chinese ports. CPN’s achievement underscores the growing demand for cleaner energy solutions in the shipping industry, which accounts for nearly 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
CPN’s Biofuel Dominance
CPN’s journey to this milestone has been years in the making. Since 2021, the company has been laser-focused on alternative fuels, assembling a dedicated task force to explore sustainable options like marine biofuel. Their efforts have paid off: in 2024 alone, CPN supplied over 44,000 metric tons of biofuels in Hong Kong, capturing a staggering 96% of the market share.
But CPN isn’t stopping there. The company has been actively collaborating with industry giants to accelerate the adoption of biofuels. Recently, they delivered ISCC-EU-certified B24 marine biofuel to Royal Caribbean’s Celebrity Solstice, a cruise ship that’s now sailing cleaner than ever.

Collaboration is key to CPN’s strategy. Last year, the company partnered with Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) for its first biofuel bunkering operation in Hong Kong. They’ve also teamed up with Swire Shipping, part of the Swire Group, to trial sustainable B24 biofuel on transpacific routes.
Looking beyond biofuels, CPN is exploring other green alternatives. In a strategic move, they’ve joined forces with Hong Kong and China Gas Company (Towngas) to develop green methanol marine fuel markets. This partnership aims to position Hong Kong as a global hub for green marine fuels, further solidifying the city’s role in the sustainable shipping revolution.
