In a world where energy innovation often feels like a behind-the-scenes affair, Spearmint Energy is turning the spotlight on battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a splash of creativity. By wrapping its BESS projects in vibrant, thought-provoking artwork, the company is not just storing energy—it’s sparking conversations about the future of power.
Art Meets Energy: A Visual Revolution
Spearmint Energy’s latest initiative is as much about aesthetics as it is about advocacy. The company has launched a groundbreaking project to adorn its commercially operating BESS installations with large-scale murals. The goal? To visually communicate the critical role of battery storage in securing reliable, sustainable energy for the planet.
The first of these installations is already live at Revolution, Spearmint’s 150 MW/300 MWh BESS project in West Texas. Designed by renowned street artist Sophie Mess, the mural features a bold, floral-inspired design that symbolises nature’s role in carbon sequestration. Emblazoned with the slogan “Join the Revolution,” the artwork is a call to action, urging communities to embrace the shift toward cleaner, more affordable energy solutions.
A Message in Every Mural
For Spearmint, this initiative is about more than just beautifying infrastructure. It’s a statement of values. Andrew Waranch, Founder, President, and CEO of Spearmint Energy, explains: “Public art is a powerful tool for communicating shared values. By merging industrial-scale batteries with mural art, we’re creating a visual dialogue about the importance of safe, dependable power.”
The company collaborated with art consultant Maxence Doytier and signage expert Mathew Crane to bring the project to life. Twenty-two mural panels now grace the west face of Revolution’s battery modules, with an additional panel facing south. Every detail was meticulously planned to ensure the art installation wouldn’t interfere with the safe operation of the batteries—a testament to Spearmint’s commitment to both innovation and safety.
Why This Matters: The Bigger Picture
Battery storage is no longer just a technical solution—it’s a cultural movement. As Waranch puts it, “Battery storage infrastructure is revolutionising energy availability and reliability globally. These art installations are a way to raise awareness and inspire communities to support the transition to clean power.”
By blending art and energy, Spearmint is making BESS technology more accessible and relatable. It’s a reminder that the fight for a sustainable future isn’t just about grids and megawatts—it’s about people, creativity, and shared responsibility.
