A Bright Partnership for Offshore Wind Innovation

Glamox, the global lighting powerhouse, has just secured a groundbreaking contract to illuminate the Wind Apex, a state-of-the-art hybrid wind turbine installation vessel being built for Denmark’s Cadeler A/S. This isn’t just any ship—it’s a game-changer for the offshore wind industry, designed to handle the largest and most advanced wind turbines in the world.

The Wind Apex is set to revolutionize offshore wind installations, with its ability to deploy both XL turbine foundations and towering wind turbines. Scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2027, this vessel is a marvel of modern engineering, and Glamox is ensuring it shines—literally.

Illuminating Every Corner: Glamox’s Lighting Mastery

Glamox will supply a staggering 2,342 marine LED lights for the Wind Apex, covering everything from the bridge and crew quarters to the engine room and exterior decks. These aren’t your average lights—they’re built to withstand the harshest marine conditions, from corrosive saltwater to explosive environments.

The lighting package includes:
Reading lights for crew cabins
Downlights and tough linear luminaires for stairways and corridors
Explosion-proof luminaires for high-risk areas
Floodlights and searchlights for exterior operations

Tommy Stranden, Glamox’s Chief Sales and Commercial Officer for Marine, Offshore, and Wind, emphasized the importance of their role: “We’re not just lighting a ship—we’re lighting the offshore energy transition. From wind turbine foundations to substations, our lights are enabling the offshore wind revolution. Without quality lighting, there’s no progress.”

The Wind Apex: A Titan of the Seas

The Wind Apex is no ordinary vessel. With a deck space of 5,600 m² and a payload capacity of over 17,000 tonnes, this Danish-flagged giant is 162 meters long and 60 meters wide. Its four 119-meter-long legs allow it to jack up and install massive foundation pieces and turbines, including the Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD, which boasts a rotor diameter of 236 meters and a staggering 14 MW capacity.

Glamox’s contract is with COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore Co., Ltd, the Chinese shipyard constructing the Wind Apex. The lighting will be delivered by April 2026, with the vessel expected to hit the seas in the first half of 2027.

Why This Matters

The Wind Apex represents the future of offshore wind energy, and Glamox’s lighting solutions are a critical piece of the puzzle. As the world shifts toward renewable energy, innovations like these are paving the way for a cleaner, greener future.
