Notion Joins the AI Meeting Wars With Live Transcriptions

The Productivity App Takes On Zoom and Otter With Real-Time Summaries

Notion is stepping into the crowded arena of AI-powered meeting tools with a new transcription feature that rivals offerings from Granola, Read AI, Zoom’s assistant, Circleback, and Otter. The move signals the company’s ambition to evolve beyond its roots as a note-taking app into a broader productivity platform. Users can now transcribe meetings in real time while simultaneously taking notes—a feature that could save hours of manual documentation for teams.

“Notion’s play here isn’t just about catching up—it’s about integrating meeting intelligence directly into your workspace,” says a beta tester familiar with the rollout.

Currently, the feature is limited to Mac users running app version 4.7.0, but mobile support is planned for later this year. The tool supports over a dozen languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese, making it viable for global teams. To start a transcription, users type “/meet” in Notion—a nod to the app’s command-driven interface—but must first confirm participant consent, a safeguard against unauthorized recording.

Alongside transcriptions, Notion is rolling out enterprise search and a research mode, further expanding its utility for knowledge workers. These additions follow earlier expansions like the Notion calendar and an AI-enhanced Gmail client, suggesting a deliberate strategy to compete with all-in-one platforms like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.

“The goal isn’t just to transcribe meetings—it’s to make them actionable,” an insider notes, hinting at future AI-driven task extraction.

While Notion’s transcription accuracy remains untested against established players, its tight integration with existing workflows could give it an edge. For now, the feature is another sign that the battle for AI-powered productivity is far from over.
