ANRA Becomes Europe’s First Certified Drone Traffic Manager
EASA’s Landmark Approval Paves the Way for Safer Skies
The race to integrate drones into European airspace just hit a critical milestone. ANRA Technologies has become the first company certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as a U-space Service Provider (USSP), a designation that positions it as a pioneer in managing unmanned aircraft traffic. The announcement, made at Airspace World in Lisbon, marks a leap toward centralized, low-altitude airspace coordination—a system designed to prevent collisions and streamline operations.
“This isn’t just a checkbox—it’s a foundation for scaling drone operations across Europe,” said ANRA’s CEO, emphasizing the rigorous two-year evaluation process.
EASA’s certification process scrutinized ANRA’s platform across five key areas: safety protocols, cybersecurity defenses, business continuity plans, data protection measures, and software reliability. The green light covers ANRA’s entire software suite, including real-time traffic management, incident response systems, and compliance oversight—a toolkit now primed for deployment in multiple EU countries. Details on specific regions are expected in the coming weeks.
A Blueprint for the Future
EASA officials framed ANRA’s certification as a template for future applicants, calling it a “defining moment” for the industry. The approval aligns with the European Commission’s Drones Strategy 2.0, which prioritizes beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) operations—a capability essential for delivery drones, emergency medical transports, and infrastructure inspections. By establishing a repeatable compliance framework, ANRA’s breakthrough could accelerate approvals for other providers.
“ANRA’s success proves that rigorous standards don’t stifle innovation—they enable it,” noted an EASA spokesperson.
For ANRA’s U-space Certification Manager, the achievement reflects years of refining processes to meet aviation-grade expectations. “We’re not just building software; we’re building trust,” they added. As Europe’s drone traffic management system takes shape, ANRA’s milestone signals that the era of crowded, unregulated skies is finally giving way to a safer, more scalable future.
