ABL Powers Up Poland’s Offshore Wind Revolution with Baltica 2
In a bold move to supercharge Poland’s renewable energy ambitions, ABL has been tapped by energy giants PGE and Ørsted to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services for the colossal 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. Nestled 40 kilometers off Poland’s Baltic coast, this mega-project is set to redefine the region’s energy landscape, harnessing the raw power of 107 cutting-edge 14 MW wind turbine generators (WTGs) and four substations anchored on monopile foundations. Once operational, Baltica 2 will generate enough clean energy to power 2.5 million Polish homes—a game-changer in the fight against climate change.
ABL’s role is no small feat. The company will oversee the marine transportation and installation (T&I) of the WTGs, ensuring every bolt, blade, and cable is meticulously aligned with precision engineering. Their scope includes technical reviews, marine assurance, risk assessments, and on-site oversight to guarantee seamless execution. With a target completion date of 2027, the clock is ticking, but ABL is no stranger to high-stakes offshore projects. “We’re bringing our A-game to Baltica 2,” says Tilo Klappenbach, ABL’s Country Manager in Germany. “Our team’s expertise in the Baltic Sea, combined with OWC’s local know-how, positions us perfectly to deliver this landmark project.”
Global Expertise Meets Local Precision
ABL’s Hamburg office will spearhead the operation, leveraging its extensive European network, including offices in Norway, the Netherlands, France, and the UK. The company will also tap into the specialized engineering prowess of OWC Poland, headquartered in Warsaw and Gdansk. This fusion of global expertise and local insight ensures that Baltica 2 benefits from the best of both worlds. “We’re not just building a wind farm; we’re building Poland’s energy future,” Klappenbach adds. “Our track record in marine logistics and offshore engineering makes us the ideal partner for this transformative project.”
Baltica 2 isn’t just another wind farm—it’s a testament to the rapid evolution of renewable energy technology. The 14 MW WTGs represent the bleeding edge of wind energy innovation, capable of generating unprecedented amounts of power with fewer turbines. This efficiency is critical as the world races to decarbonize, and ABL’s role in ensuring their safe and effective deployment underscores the company’s commitment to a sustainable future.
What’s Next for Offshore Wind?
As Baltica 2 takes shape, it’s clear that offshore wind is no longer a niche industry—it’s a cornerstone of the global energy transition. With projects like this, Poland is positioning itself as a leader in renewable energy, while ABL continues to cement its reputation as a go-to partner for complex offshore ventures. The lessons learned from Baltica 2 will undoubtedly ripple across the industry, setting new benchmarks for efficiency, safety, and innovation.
