Wood and Shell: A Partnership Built to Last

The UK-based engineering powerhouse, Wood, has just inked a two-year contract extension with Shell, solidifying its role as a key player in the energy giant’s UK operations. Valued at a staggering $120 million, this deal underscores Wood’s expertise in delivering cutting-edge engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services across Shell’s onshore and offshore assets.

With around 240 employees dedicated to the project, Wood will focus on brownfield EPC services, subsea operations, and integrity management. This extension isn’t just a win for Wood—it’s a testament to the company’s ability to innovate and deliver results in an ever-evolving energy landscape.

The Penguins FPSO: A Game-Changer for the North Sea

One of the most exciting aspects of this contract is Wood’s involvement in Shell’s FPSO Penguins project. This floating production, storage, and offloading unit marks Shell’s first new North Sea FPSO in nearly 30 years. Set to resume oil and gas production from a field that’s been offline since 2021, the Penguins FPSO is a beacon of innovation in the UK’s energy sector.

Wood’s role in this project highlights its ability to tackle complex challenges, from engineering to execution. As Ken Gilmartin, CEO of Wood, puts it, “This extension is recognition of our people and their commitment to deliver best-in-class outcomes for our clients.”

Expanding Horizons: Wood’s Global Footprint

This contract extension isn’t Wood’s only recent win. The company has been making waves globally, securing assignments with Esso Australia for assets in the Gippsland Basin and working on Shell’s floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility off the coast of Western Australia. These projects showcase Wood’s versatility and its ability to adapt to diverse energy needs across continents.

As the energy sector continues to shift toward sustainability and innovation, Wood is positioning itself as a leader in delivering safe, reliable, and efficient solutions. This latest contract with Shell is just another step in the company’s journey to redefine the future of energy.
