A Groundbreaking Three-Year Deal

Norwegian marine geoscience powerhouse Shearwater GeoServices and French energy titan TotalEnergies have just inked a three-year global seismic capacity reservation agreement (CRA). This landmark deal cements their long-standing partnership, ensuring Shearwater’s cutting-edge seismic fleet will be at the forefront of TotalEnergies’ exploration and carbon capture efforts.

The agreement guarantees a minimum of 18 vessel months of seismic activity, marking a significant step forward in the collaboration between these two industry leaders. It’s not just about seismic surveys—this deal is a springboard for innovation, with potential for expanded collaboration across geophysical data analysis, production monitoring, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiatives.

Innovation Meets Exploration

Shearwater CEO Irene Waage Basili emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating, “Shearwater is committed to revolutionizing the marine seismic market through technology and innovative commercial models. This collaboration with TotalEnergies, one of the true explorers in our industry, is a testament to our shared vision.”

The deal isn’t just about securing resources—it’s about pushing boundaries. Both companies are focused on exploring new frontier areas, making this partnership a perfect match. “Our aligned interests and complementary strengths position us to deliver exceptional results,” Basili added.

Upcoming Projects: A Glimpse into the Future

The partnership is already bearing fruit. In early October 2024, Shearwater announced plans to conduct an Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) survey in Block 32, covering the Louro and Mostarda fields for TotalEnergies. Scheduled to kick off in January 2025, this ambitious project is expected to take two and a half months.

But that’s not all. Later in October, Shearwater secured another contract with TotalEnergies for an offshore project in Angola. These projects underscore the trust and synergy between the two companies, setting the stage for even more groundbreaking work in the years to come.
