Polarcus: Gambia A2/A5 3D

Polarcus are pleased to announce the availability for licensing of a 1,500 sq. km RightBAND™ Multi-Client 3D Survey over Blocks A2 and A5, offshore The Gambia. This new broadband data volume lies directly south and on-trend with the SNE field discovery currently being appraised in The Gambia’s neighboring country, Senegal. The SNE field has been described by Cairn as ‘potentially the largest global oil discovery in 2014.’

The new multi-client survey is located in The Gambia’s offshore Casamance-Bissau sub-basin, located in the southern part of the greater Senegal Basin. The area has seen recent renewed industry focus due to three successive hydrocarbon discoveries on the adjacent Cairn operated acreage in Senegalese waters. Here, the world class SNE-1 and FAN-1 oil discoveries in Cretaceous aged sandstones have opened up a new oil-prone fairway with multiple play types extending to the south, into Gambian waters. Estimates by the Operator post completion of the SNE-2 well suggest 2C contingent reserves of 385 million barrels of oil. Further resource revisions are expected following the full analysis of the recently drilled SNE-3, BEL-1 and SNE-4 wells. Similar plays along the West Africa margin are already in development or production, and the adjacent acreage in The Gambia covered by the Polarcus multi-client survey provides a number of leads and prospects on-trend to these exciting discoveries.

Polarcus’ Gambia 3D Multi-Client Survey, acquired in 2015 in collaboration with Gambia’s Ministry of Petroleum and GeoPartners, provides numerous opportunities for reduced risk play-based exploration. Screening of the new RightBAND™ Gambia 3D Multi-Client volume has identified a number of both structural and stratigraphic leads on trend with the SNE discoveries, confirming that the new deepwater clastic play concept extends into The Gambia. Polarcus’ 3D survey provides optimum imaging to allow evaluation of this highly prospective area.
