Solstad Offshore Lands Major Petrobras Deals in Offshore Vessel Push

Norwegian offshore vessel operator Solstad Offshore has locked in a trio of lucrative contracts with Brazilian energy giant Petrobras, pending final board approvals. The deals—covering two anchor-handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels and one construction support vessel (CSV)—signal renewed momentum in deepwater oilfield services.

Four-Year Contracts for Specialized Fleet

The two AHTS vessels scored four-year contracts each, with one including remotely operated vehicle (ROV) support capabilities. Both will mobilize in Q1 2026, drawing from Solstad Maritime’s existing fleet. Meanwhile, the CSV Normand Flower—also owned by Solstad Maritime—secured its own four-year term with ROV services, set to commence December 2025.

“These contracts represent a strategic win for Solstad’s high-specification vessels in a tightening offshore market,” said an industry analyst familiar with the deals.

Complex Ownership, Clear Strategy

The agreements highlight Solstad Offshore’s 27.3% stake in Solstad Maritime, a relationship that allows both entities to leverage shared assets. The structured timeline—with CSV operations launching months before the AHTS vessels—suggests Petrobras is staggering its offshore support needs for major projects.

With ROV capabilities bundled into two contracts, the deals reflect growing demand for subsea intervention services as Brazil’s pre-salt fields require more complex maintenance. Industry watchers note this could position Solstad favorably for future Petrobras tenders as the state-controlled firm expands its offshore infrastructure.
