Sovcomflot supports development of professional maritime education in Russia’s Far East

On 6 September 2017, the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maksim Sokolov, along with the Deputy Minister of Transport and Head of the Federal Agency of Sea and River Transport Viktor Olersky, paid a working visit to the Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University.

At the invitation of the Honorary President of G.I. Nevelskoy Maritime State University Sergey Frank and its Rector, Sergey Ogay, the heads of the Ministry of Transport were briefed about the ongoing work to set up a Training Centre (an Educational and Simulator Complex for Continuous Professional Development in Navigation ). They were also acquainted with the University’s Informational Science and Education project, a public-private partnership.

Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University is one of Russia’s leading specialist universities. The first buildings of the new scientific and educational facilities will open their doors to new cadets and faculty members in late 2018/early 2019. The simulator complex will operate in conjunction with the floating laboratory set up this year on Gennadiy Nevelskoy, a multifunctional ice-breaking platform supply vessel owned by Sovcomflot which will support the university’s scientific and educational programmes.

The heads of the Ministry of Transport were shown the latest cutting-edge equipment that will be used at the new training centres. Students will use the equipment to help prepare them for future work in the Arctic and subarctic sea basins, as well as for careers in the field of electric  propulsion. They also supported the university’s proposal to transition to digital standards of educational, scientific and innovative activity, to significantly improve the quality of vocational education and training.
