The ExxonMobil team in Guyana is said to be in high spirits as a new oil exploration campaign is set to begin at the Turbot-1 well located 107 nautical miles offshore the South American country. The US super-major has so far discovered significant recoverable reserves in the Stabroek Block, estimated to be as high as 2.75 billion barrels.
“The team is excited to start drilling operations at the Turbot field,” ExxonMobil Guyana’s Senior Director, Public and Government Affairs, Kimberly Brasington, told OilNOW on Thursday via telephone.
Five vessels will be involved in the three-month drilling operation at the Turbot-1 well, namely; Stena Carron, M/V Cat Island, M/V Fast Titan, M/V Hannah Chouest and HOS Commander, covering an area of one square kilometer. The campaign will begin on August 14.
“Turbot is a new field for ExxonMobil and we’re looking forward to seeing what results it brings,” Brasington said.
Meanwhile, the company will undertake a 3D/4D seismic survey 86 nautical miles offshore within the Stabroek Block, over an area of 2,215 square kilometers, commencing on September 1. The PGS Hyperion, M/V Thor Assister and the M/V Thor Omega will be involved in this operation.
ExxonMobil along with its joint-venture partners Hess and Nexen will begin oil production in Guyana in mid-2020.
