Ikon Science: OGA sign contracts for West of Shetland Roknowledgebase

As reported by Ikon Science on 4 June 17. Ikon Science, the leading GeoPrediction company, was recently awarded contracts for its multiclient Roknowledge well, seismic and subsurface reservoir knowledgebase.

The deal was part of recent £1.5million, Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) contract to enable more regional content to be available to Operators working on the UK continental shelf (UKCS).

OGA Director of Operations, Gunther Newcombe, said: ‘The UKCS remains a highly attractive exploration destination and in order to maximise the economic recovery of oil and gas from the UKCS, exploration activity must be revitalised in both mature and frontier plays” (EnergyVoice Online, 1/5/17).

The Ikon Science Roknowledge Studies selected are phases 1 and 2 of Ikon’s West of Shetland Rock Physics Study. Phase 1 consists of a rock physics and AVO analysis of 35 key exploration and appraisal wells across 6 UKCS Quads, designed to provide a digital reference of rock physics relationships and the seismic behaviour of rocks. Following Phase 1, a number of high profile wells were drilled, including three additional wells on the UKCS and three from Faroese waters, producing a phase 2 report. More information about both of these studies can be found at ikonscience.com/studies.
